He has an unique way of capturing people that showcases them for who they are rather than who they are believed to be. His work is intrinsically interested in humanity and capturing the essence of an individual. ![]() With his real passion being portraiture, Testino reworked and updated the typical portrait. He developed a camera style that was both extremely flamboyant and regal. Mario drew his main inspirations for his photography from British photographer, Cecil Beaton, and the idyllic imagery of his childhood holidays in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Testino soon racked up an impressive list of clients including notable fashion houses such as Gucci, Versace, Yves Saint Laurent, and publications including Vogue, Vanity Fair, and W Magazine just to name a few. His sharp eye and talent got him quick attention. In 1976, he then moved to London to focus solely on his career as a fashion photographer. While in California, he began making portfolios for up and coming models during the day and worked as a waiter at night. He began his adult life by studying law and economics at the University of Lima and international affairs at the University of California, San Diego. Testino did not start out as a photographer at first. Mario Testino, originally from Lima, Peru, is arguably one of the greatest fashion photographers of our time. ![]()
